REFLECTION AND ANTICIPATION -For my internship I am heading to my home state, Minnesota to complete 3 weeks of an internship at Arquette Modeling Agency. Arquette is a modeling agency as well as a talent agency, always looking and scouting for new faces and talents. Not only does Arquette look and work with people in the Twin Cities, they reach out to other states to find their talent. Arquette models have worked with national clientele such as; Abercrombie, Burberry, Aveda, Oscar de la Rente, Taymark, Kohls, Jockey, Vogue Magazine, and Target. Arquettte's mission is to "Home Grow healthy and smart models by building their image and development off of their strengths, needs and goals."
During my internship with Arquette, I will be managing the kids department of Arquette, working on scouting new faces, preparing kids and their parents for the industry, and castings as well as bookings. I will also be researching and planning a kids fashion show for Fashion week in September, attending a shoot to learn how a set works. My mentor at Arquette is Brita Jackson, the owner of the agency. I hope Brita can give me an insight into the business side of things as well as the fashion and modeling side. I hope I can get good experiences working in this field that prepare me for my future My academic goals for this internship is to get the work done given to me as soon as possible and do it to the best of my ability .I want to be efficient and get my work done while at this internship. My career goals for this internship include taking the experiences I have from this internship and doing something with them. For example deciding if I would like to continue similar things as a career choice or not. Look into the schooling it would require and add that into my plan.My personal goals for this internship is to just enjoy myself as much as I possibly can. I want to live out this experience as much as I possibly can. I hope my experience can move me to my goals day by day and in the end I can reflect back and be content with what I did. I'm thinking my project might be creating a whole outline and plan for the fashion show we are planning. It supports the work of the business because this is an actual fashion show the agency is having. This contributes to local community because my plans may be used in the fashion show and the fashion show takes place in the nearby community. I hope completing my project teaches me about how much goes into planning events such as this one as well as time that goes into planning. Challenges that I had to face while setting up my internship was really choosing as field to look into and contact people from. Not being able to choose a field stopped me from even contacting people in the first place. By the time I started contacting places I found that more often or not they weren't offering an internship or they wouldn't answer my calls or emails. At one point I was considering doing my internship during the summer so I could have more time to do some more time to contact and plan. Finally I decided to stay home one day and dedicated my day to contacting businesses with a pre-written email. I found that emailing was a lot more successful in getting back replies then phone calls were. Finally I was in contact with about 4 different people discussing the logistics of a internship with them. During that process I learned that emailing gets you a response more than leaving some type of voicemail. Also having a pre-written email that I could customize depending on who I sent it too was a big help because it covered all the basic information about the internship as well as my resume. My feelings for this internship range from excitement to nervousness. Thinking about all the things I going to be having an opportunity to be doing gets me so excited because I feel like I'm getting a true experience that allows me to understand the field. My nervousness comes from just the separation from my parents and also the new setting I'm going to have to be in. I'm sure I will eventually be accustomed to the environment, but I'm just scared for the initial introduction to a world I don't know very much about. |
